PRE-ORDER FOR THE LIMITED EDITION 2025 ARCHIWATCH «PADELLONE» TRIPLE CALENDAR MOONPHASE PANNA DIAL 55
This collection was designed as an homage to one of the most iconic watches ever made: the Patek Philippe "Padellone" 3448. The original 3448, produced from 1962 to 1981, holds a special place in horological history as the world’s first self-winding perpetual calendar wristwatch produced in series. Featuring a 37.5 mm case — considered large for its time — the watch combined cutting-edge technical innovation with elegant design. While most examples were made in yellow gold, rare versions in white gold, rose gold, and platinum make this reference especially prized among collectors.
Only about 586 pieces were produced over two decades, contributing to its rarity and desirability. Known affectionately as the “Padellone” (Italian for “big frying pan”) due to its wide, flat case, the 3448 commands strong demand at international auctions, particularly in its rarer metals. This landmark timepiece remains a timeless icon for collectors who appreciate the blend of technical mastery and mid-century modern aesthetics, as well as a legacy of innovation and elegance.
This watch was envisioned in the spirit of a rare vintage timepiece, evoking the essence of NOS (New Old Stock) — as if it had left the factory decades ago and remained untouched in a safe until now. Building on Archiwatch’s earlier references 2510 and 2525, this “Padellone” Triple Calendar Moonphase reference 55 offers a fresh and distinctive perspective on collecting — a new yet rare watch that carries the soul of vintage craftsmanship, paired with an authentic story, all at an affordable price. For me, it represents the fulfillment of a long-held desire to blend history, design, and wearability into one compelling, everyday companion that reflects a passion for horological heritage while offering something truly unique for the modern collector.
The dial is a masterclass in elegant minimalism, balancing complex functionality with a clean, refined aesthetic. Rendered in a delicate panna hue — reminiscent of the light, creamy beige of panna cotta — it brings a subtle warmth and vintage charm to the design. Featuring applied, sharp faceted arrow-shaped hour markers and matching dauphine-style hands, the dial is beautifully proportioned, with a subtle painted minute track encircling the outer edge between the indices, as seen on the fourth series — a departure from previous executions featuring incrusted half-spheres, also known as minute pearls. Two apertures below 12 o’clock display the day and month, while a charming moonphase and date sub-dial grace the 6 o’clock position, adding visual depth without overwhelming the design. The absence of clutter, combined with Archiwatch’s signature attention to detail — from the crisp typography to the perfectly balanced layout — results in a dial that exudes timeless sophistication.
The case of the 55 is a stunning example of sophisticated craftsmanship, designed with a refined three-body construction that seamlessly integrates the polished sloping bezel, case middle, and case back. Measuring 37.75 mm, it presents a bold yet elegant profile, with beautifully polished, razor-sharp lugs that catch the light and highlight the watch’s sculptural form. The sides of the case are subtly brushed, offering a delicate contrast to the polished surfaces and enhancing the overall sense of depth and texture. This interplay between finishes not only showcases meticulous attention to detail but also reinforces the timeless appeal of the 55, making it a perfect balance of integration and aesthetic grace.
