1990s Daniel Roth Le Sentier "Central-Second" 18k Yellow Gold Grey guilloché Dial 177
In 1989, Roth established his own brand in Le Sentier, Switzerland’s watchmaking heartland, where he led a skilled team of artisans to create limited-edition timepieces. He selected movements from esteemed manufacturers like F. Piguet, Lemania, and Jaeger-LeCoultre, each meticulously modified and hand-finished with intricate decorations such as perlage, anglage, Côtes de Genève, and polished screws, executed entirely by hand.
This Daniel Roth Le Sentier reference 177 is a remarkable tribute to the watchmaker’s enduring legacy, produced between 1995 and 1999.
Its distinctive double-ellipse steel case embodies Daniel Roth's signature design. Neither entirely round nor rectangular, the case is meticulously proportioned at 38.5 mm x 35.5 mm with a slim 7.8 mm profile, making it effortlessly wearable under a cuff.
The timepiece is celebrated for its exceptional craftsmanship, showcasing a hand-engraved silver dial adorned with the iconic pinstripe guilloché pattern. The dial's elegant design combines striking contrasts, Roman numerals on a brushed chapter ring, and blue arrow-shaped hands accompanied by an anchor-shaped sweep seconds hand. Adding a vintage charm, the dial features tritium indexes above the numerals and tritium-filled hand tips.
Signed "DANIEL ROTH" at 12 o'clock, the dial is framed by a stepped bezel and sharp, straight lugs that enhance its refined presence. The harmonious interplay of lines and curves achieves timeless sophistication.
A date aperture at six o'clock diverges aesthetically from the brand’s signature sub-dial placement. It features a bidirectional quick-set function, operable by rotating the screw-down crown forward or backward, complementing the watch’s core timekeeping purpose. Below the date window, a discreet "Swiss" engraving nods to the Vallée de Joux, the birthplace of this horological masterpiece.
Attention to detail extends to the gold-accented rotor visible through the sapphire case back, the case back engraved with Daniel Roth’s name and the watch's unique serial number, and a rare signed steel folding buckle with a pattern mirroring the guilloché dial. This cult classic blends simplicity with refinement, embodying the artistic and technical brilliance of Daniel Roth.
